At last, the prom! Mohican
Lodge set the scene for this
much anticipated annual event.
Even the gray weather, and the
humongous buffet line could
not dampen the spirits of the
seniors. The dance floor was
jammed as the D.J. spun the
discs, and announced Jack
Elswick and Lori Simmons as
Prom King and Queen. Part of
the challenge of this year’s prom
was the chance to test Mr.
Dressler’s driving instruction on
the foggy drive from Mohican to
the Richland Mall Cinema.
Those who passed the test arriv-
ed in plenty of time to view
“Shampoo” and “Take This Job
and Shove It.”

Juniors’ other major money making
project was the sale of Spicer Pizza
Kits. Officers were Patti McCam-
bridge, Secretary; Karen Metz,
Vice-President; Kevin Elkins,
President; and Kathy Scheets,
Treasurer. The class was advised
by Mr. Gross and Mrs. Moore.
The Class of 83 was advised by
Mr. Goode and Miss George. Of-
ficers were Darren Jackson, Presi-
dent; Ann Earley, Vice-President:
Samantha Roe, Secretary; and
Becky Lewis, Treasurer.
The Freshman class was advised

The choirs, under the direc-
tion of Michele Shafer, had a
very rewarding year. Selected
members of the Concert Choir
went to Ohio State University to
participate in the All-Ohio
Choral Workshop on October
13th. The Vocal Music Dept.
sponsored an all day workshop
with Malabar on November 12.
All of the choirs participated
in a Winter Concert and the
Chorus Tenor-Bass Group were
asked to perform at the
American Choral Directors
Association.
On January 23rd, Malabar
and Mansfield Senior Vocal
Music Departments sponsored a
Jr. High Orientation to get mid-
dle school students interested in
music.
Twenty-nine solos, eight
ensembles, and the first
Chamber Choir participated in
State Solo and Ensemble Con-
test, earning high ratings. The
Choirs received a rating of
superior at district contest in
March and went on and earned
superior ratings in state contest
also. Bake sales and candy sales
helped fund these events. The
Concert Choir was headed by
Co-Presidents Rachel Kick and
Chris Sykes.

Performances
The Jazz Band once again
gave many outstanding perfor-
mances, playing at VV, the e
Gorman Assembly, a_ school
assembly, and at other functions
in the community.
The orchestra played at the
Homecoming Assembly and at
Class Day, and highlighted its
year with the splendid
Christmas Concert.
Spirit was kept high by the
Pep Band at all home basketball
games.
The Freshman Band
members worked hard develop-
ing their musical talents in
preparation for the many events
they will have during their
years at Senior High.
The Tyger Band, under the
direction of Percy Hall, was
very successful this year. They
performed at Cedar Point in
June and before large crowds at
the Labor Day, Halloween and
Miss Ohio parades. The band
was also honored when it was
invited to perform in a March-
ing Band Festival held at
Amherst, Ohio.
Rob Fischer, Dan Fischer,
Dan Adams, Barry Hall, and
Dan Lanthorne were acce ted
into the All-State band which
performed in Cleveland at the
State Convention. Rob Fischer
was further honored by being
accepted by the McDonald's
All-American Band. He per-
formed in the Macy’s
Thanksgiving Parade and at a
concert at Carnegie Hall in
New York.
The Majorettes and the four-
teen member Flag Corps
attended camp in August and
won trophies for their
performances.
Concert and Symphonic
bands participated in district
and state competition and won
superior ratings in both.
Band officers this year were
Bob Duellman, president;
Norine Daugherty, Vice-
president; Linda Lake,
secretary; and Rob Fischer,
treasurer. Mr. Glenn Fischer
served as an assistant director
this year.

This year’s Spirit makers did an outstanding job
keeping up the Tyger spirit. The Pep Club organized
many enjoyable Pep Assemblies such as the “Hairy
Leg Contest,” which was won by Coach Prats. The
Highsteppers performed unique routines during Pep
Assemblies and basketball half-times.
During the Ninth grade basketball and football
seasons the Freshman cheerleaders kept the Tyger
pride gleaming.
The Junior Varsity and Varsity cheerleaders at-
tended the U.S.C.A. Cheerleading Clinic during the
summer. The Junior Varsity Squad placed in the top
10 and the Varsity placed fourth in the overall com-
petition. Varsity Captain, Lori Simmons and Co-
Captain, Brenda Brown, along with the rest of the
Varsity Squad, cheered the Tyger basketball team on-
to a Buckeye Conference win. The Spirit-makers per-
formed with excellence through the entire 1980-81
season.
