Tyger Cross
Country Team
Looks Ahead
The Tyger Cross Country Team had
another discouraging season, finishing
with a 1-13 record. The team is hoping
for a better season next year with the
majority of the team returning with
experience.
Bob Griggs, a sophomore, received
another Varsity letter for his second
year on the team. Other Varsity letter
winners on the team were Seniors,
Karen Dixon and Kim Watson, Juniors,
Valerie Avery, Marcellous Adams,
Lynell Bryant, and Robert Zahn, and
Sophomores, Jeff Brown and Ken
Smith. Reserve letters went to freshmen
Darren Jackson, Jeff Porch, and
Sophomore Frank Richter.
Bob Griggs received the Most
Valuable Player Award on the team,
while John Jackson earned the Most
Improved Player Award.
This is the first year in the history of
Mansfield Senior High that any girls
have participated in the sport of Cross
Country. Since these girls didn’t have a
team of their own, they had to compete
against guys. These girls were Karen
Dixon, Kim Watson, and Valerie Avery.
The Cross Country Team was under the
instruction of first year Coach Robert
Hood.

Drama
Depa rtment
Presents One-
Acts
The Drama Department
presented three one-act plays on
the nights of November 30 and
December 1. The director, Mr.
Asher, chose three old-fashioned
“mellerdramas” for a change of
pace in Senior High
productions.
The first play, “The Saga of
Sagebrush Sal,” took place in
the old West and had cowboy
and Indian chases and cancan
girls in the saloon. Kristine
Anderson narrated the play,
and starring roles were filled by
Rachel Kick, Victor Davis,
Marilyn Irey, and Vince Carmel.
Seventeen other students had
parts in this production.
“Millie, the Beautiful
Working Girl” was about the
love between wealthy
Brentwood Draper and the
family maid. This infuriates his
snobbish mother, who is herself
being pursued by the villainous
Clifford Ravenswood. Marilyn
Irey, Kathy Hempfield, Russell
Penney, Sherry Kopina, Ed
Weidle, and Jerry Fliger starred
in the production.
“Foiled by an Innocent Maid”
starred Lori Clay, Julie Stricker,
Janita Smith, Debbie Anderson,
Jerry Fliger, and Kevin
Ringold. The Follansbee family
grieve over the supposed death
of their grandchild, while the
villain Longfellow plots to steal
their fortune by impersonating
the child’s father and later his
grandmother.

Drama
Department
Presents Spring

Mr. Asher chose the play
“Good Morning, Miss Dove” for
the drama department’s spring
production. It was presented as
a school matinee on May 7,

The story concerns a teacher
accused of being too strict on
discipline, to the point of being
unfair to one of her students.
The matter finally comes before
the school board in a special
session. Many flashbacks reveal
how Miss Dove got this way and
show some of her philosophy
about life and teaching.

American Electrical Products Company
653 Lida Street * Mansfield. Ohio 44903
Established in 1920, American Electrical Products continues to build on the keystone of quality — both in
materials and workmanship. Originally a producer of toys for children, the firm soon moved into production of
various electrical products. Out of this grew the need for close tolerance, precision screw machine parts. This
need changed the direction of the company's production and in 1935 American Electrical Products began to
make precision screw machine parts for another company. Today, we're still doing business with that first
customer, and still producing quality screw machine parts for them. Through the years, this policy of making
quality parts to the exact specifications of our customers has maintained our steady growth.

| would like to thank...
As editor of the 1980 Manhigan | would like to thank those people who
contributed many long hours to make this book a reality.
Special thanks and appreciation go to our advisor, Mr. David Gross, who
worked hard with me to make this book a success. | would also like to thank the
staff members who worked very hard to meet deadlines, and Mr. Tom Kiess, the
Taylor Yearbook representative.
| would like to thank this year's photographers who took many fine pictures.
Buell-Kraft Studio should also be praised for developing and printing many of our
pictures.
Thanks goes to Mr. Au and the business staff who organized ads, sales, and the
distribution of books.
In closing, | would like to wish next year's staff the best of luck.
