The best cosmetic in the world is an
active mind that is always finding
something new.
(Mary Meek Atkeson) ,
If you have anything really valuable to
contribute to the world, it will come through
the expression of your own personality—that
single spark of divinity that sets you off and
makes you different from every other living
creature.
(Bruce Barton)
So long as enthusiasm lasts, so long
is youth still with us.
(David Starr Jordan)
Success is to be measured not so much
by the position that one has reached in life
as by the obstacles which he has
overcome while trying to succeed.
(Booker T. Washington)
If you have knowledge, let others light their candles at it.
(Thomas Fuller)
Keep your fears to yourself, but
share your courage with others.
(Robert Louis Stevenson)

Class Of 1976 Works Hard For Success
In the fall of 1973 a group of new students
came to Mansfield Senior High for the first time.
They formed the Class of 1976. Chosen as leaders
for the sophomore year were Robert Avery, presi-
dent, Isaac Robinson, vice-president; Mary
McGraw, secretary; and Liz Woods, treasurer.
Advisors were Miss Shafer and Mr. Campbell.
Projects included a candy sale and the student-
faculty volleyball game.
Homecoming was the highlight of the junior
year. Cindy Weirich was crowned queen, and the
theme chosen was “You Are the Sunshine of My
Life”. New officers elected were Julie Clay,
president; Julie Jackson, vice-president; Cheryl
Rodriguez, secretary; and Liz Woods returned as
treasurer. Mrs. Hane replaced Miss Shafer as an
advisor.
Senior year saw the production of Varsity
Varieties and a most successful citrus sale at
Christmas. Julie Clay was crowned queen of the
J.C. Gorman Tournament. Class Day, the prom,
and Commencement held the best memories of
all. The class prospered under the leadership of
Cheryl Rodriguez, president; Kathy Elkins, vice-
president; Brenda Hamblin, secretary; and Deb-
bie Bowers, treasurer.

Juniors Stage
Successful
Homecoming
One of the year’s highlights for the
Class of "77 was the staging of Home-
coming. Juniors worked planning and
decorating for the assembly, game, and
dance. Other projects included a pen
sale, bake sale, and a highly success-
ful lollipop sale. Toward the end of the
year juniors sponsored a paid assembly
featuring a volleyball game between
girls and women faculty members.
Chosen as officers this year were Edith
Reynolds, president; Delores Taylor, vice-
president; Louise Harkins, secretary; and
Marcia Hall, treasurer. Mr. Asher and
Mrs. Gerrell served as advisors to the
class.

Sophomores
Start Year
Successfully
The sophomores started off the year by
getting themselves organized as a class
and electing officers. Jeff Frontz was
elected president; serving with him were
Robert Woods, vice-president; Denita
Williams, secretary; and Curtis McFar-
land, treasurer. Miss Papenhausen was
asked to advise the class.
During the year sophomores sold print-
ed buttons and organized a bake sale.
Scott Winbigler and Monica Holzwarth
were chosen outstanding sophomores and
were honored by the Mansfield Exchange
Club.

The year’s first school play was “Natalie

Asher. The plan ran three performances,
January 28-30, two evenings and a matineee
for students. The play is a comical farce
about a businessman, Tommy Briggs, who
acquires company bonuses under false
pretenses, such as being married and a
father when he is neither. When his boss,
J.J. Juniper, comes to his apartment to meet
his family, Tommy has to come up with a

everything goes wrong.

A Word Of Thanks...
As editor of this year’s Manhigan, I would like to thank all those
who worked hard and long to put this book together.
First of all, my thanks goes to all the staff members who
made this 1976 Manhigan possible. Without them there would
be none. I would also like to express my appreciation to our
advisor, Mr. Dave Gross, and the American Yearbook represen-
tative, Mr. Earl Parks, for all their time.
My thanks also goes to our photographer, Dave Dotson, for the
many fine pictures he took. His time and talent have made this
Manhigan a reality. Smucker’s Studio should be commended for
taking pictures at many events and developing and printing
many of our pictures. A big thanks goes to the Mansfield News-
Journal for furnishing many great pictures.
Special thanks goes to Mr. Au and the business staff for
their hard work with advertising, sales, and distribution.
Credit for the picture of the tiger on the cover goes to Mare
and Evelyne Bernheim from Woodfin Camp and Associates of
New York City.
In closing, I want to wish next year’s Manhigan staff the best of
luck and hope that they will find it as rewarding as I did.
