AHEAD...
Tygers Break
Even in '77
This year’s Tyger football
team came up with a satisfactory
.500 season. Although the
Tygers were shut out in three of
their games, they made up for it
by skunking two other teams.
The loss to Malabar was a
disappointment, but the Tygers
came back to stomp Madison the
following week. The highlight of
the season was a whirlwind
comeback toward the end of the
season to win the last two games
of the season.
Outstanding players of the
season were offensive lineman
Mike Hoy for the second year in
a row, Offensive back Jerry
Powell, defensive lineman
Dennis Ferguson, and defensive
back Robert Williams. Jeff
Divelbiss won the Jimo Adams
Award, while the coaches’ award
went to Dave Graber. Mike Hoy,
Jerry Powell, and Jim Adams
received the captains’ awards.
Ray Bauhs made first team All
Buckeye Conference. Named to
second team were Powell,
Twyman, Hoy, Williams, Adams,
Ferguson, and Divelbiss.

Cross Country
Team Looks
to Future
The cross country team had a
rather discouraging season,
finishing with an 0-12 record.
However, there was a good
turnout for the team, so next
year’s prospects should be
better.
Wayne Curry was the
outstanding runner for the year.
He not only qualified for district
competition, but also captured
the school record for two and
one-half miles — 13:38.
Tygers placed fourth in the
Buckeye Conference and tenth
in the sectionals. Coach Halley
Weaver led the cross country
runners this year.

Tyger Girls
Have Winning
Season
The Tyger tennis team under
the direction of Coach Laura
Evilsizor finished their season
with a 6-3 record this year. ‘‘The
team improved its record greatly
from last year, mostly because
of experienced players. I’m sure
we'll have a successful season
next year too,’’ said Coach
Evilsizor.
Most valuable player award
went to Janine Boocks for the
second year in a row. Tami
Jones was named most
improved player, and Linda
Wappner got the captain's
award.

Tough
Schedule
The Tyger golfers ended their
rugged schedule of matches
with a disappointing 1-18

Players Gain
Experience
The '77 season was a bit
discouraging to the Tyger
volleyball team, ending with a 2-
13 record. Most important
players on offense were Betty
Hriesik, Sally Lehman, and
Monica Holzwarth, with Trisha
Walker, Hillary Dalton, and
Armanda Blakley on defensive.
Named most valuable player
was Monica Holzwarth, while
Joyce Phillips captured the most
improved award. The captain’s
award went to Betty Hriesik.
With the improvement shown
by all players, both Mrs. Creasy

Tygers Beat
Falcons, Rams
Once again this year the
Tygers, along with many other
schools in the Midwest, had to
face the problem of closed
schools for long periods of time.
Practice time was cut and many
games had to be postponed,
some on the very afternoon of
the game when unexpected
snow storms hit. Despite this the
team averaged 57 points per
game, while their opponents
averaged only 58.6 points per
game. The season ended with a
7-11 record. Beating cross-town
rivals, Malabar and Madison,
was a highlight for the fans.
Kevin Carter was named the
most valuable player of the
season. Other awards went to
Jerry Powell, best foul shooter,
Wayne Curry, most assists; Evie
Feagin, most rebounds. Carter
and Curry were honorary co-
captains. The team was coached
by Jim Goode and his assistant
Ken Fairchild.
Coach Ron Hetler reported
that the J.V. team came up with
a 5-11 record this season. David
Givand was the leading scorer
and the leading defensive
rebounder. Others named were
Melvin McDowell, leading
offensive rebounder; Todd
Kochheiser, best foul shooter;
Jack Cline, most assists in one
game; and Brian Williams, most
assists for the season. This team
had the best offensive record in
the last four years.

The Tyger girls’ basketball
team ended their season with a
5-12 record this year. Coach
John Miefert emphasized that
the girls really improved their
last seven games, working
together and playing good team
basketball. The team showed
their position in the city by
beating Malabar all three games
and beating Madison one of the
two games they played.
Awards went to Becky
Roessler for most rebounds, and
to Carline Curry for most assists
and best foul shooting
percentage. Co-captains were
Betty Hriesik and Linda

Tygers Gain
Sectional
Crown
The Tyger Baseball Team, also
known as Roger’s Dodgers,
played a fine season this spring
as they captured the sectional
crown. The Tygers, led by team
captain Tom Cline, turned out an
11-8 record.
Tim Baldridge led the team in
hitting with an average of .403.
At the sports banquet he was
given awards for both leading
hitter, and offensive efficiency
points. The defensive award
went to Jeff Frontz and Tom
Crotty brought in the most
improved award. Eric Lookenott

Popular Sport
This year forty-two girls came
out for Tyger softball. Six
returned from last year’s squad,
and after three weeks of
conditioning, the varsity team of
fifteen was set.
The most impressive aspect of
the team was the hustle and
determination; this was shown
by the close scores in four of the
six losses. The main
disappointment was the
weather; six games were rained
out and couldn't be rescheduled
because of more rain.
Standouts this year were
seniors Betty Hriesik, who did a
great job at center and on
second, Linda Simpson, on third
and in left field, and Linda
Wappner, who was called on to
pitch, catch, play left, and cover
third. Carline Curry produced
the highest batting average of
.603, while Cindy Beard and
Becky Roessler handled most of
the pitching duties. With only
four graduating seniors this year
next year’s Tygers look to be in
contention come tournament
time.

Tyger NeHers
Have
Disappointing
Season
The Tyger Tennis Team got off
to a slow Start this year, as they
were unable to find a coach.
Finally the coaching
responsibilities were divided
among Coach Goode, Coach
Flanegan, and Mr. Plough, so
that the team would have a
chance to compete.
Mark Browarsky was the only
three year man on the squad.
Others playing varsity were Cecil
Bradley, Virgil Cates, Jerry
Princehorn, Todd Long, Todd
Kochheiser, and William
Franklin. On reserve were Ron
Marvicsin, Jeff Eisaman, David
Akers, Melvin McDowell, and
Victor Davis. With most of these
returning, next year should see
some improvement.
Special awards went to Mark
Browarsky for most points and to
Todd Kochheiser as most
improved player.

ACTIVITIES
Homecoming
Staged by
Juniors
After much hard work the
Class of '79 presented
Homecoming '77, ‘‘The Long
and Winding Road."’ The week
began with the election of Queen
Shelley Stevens and her court,
Sheri Sertell, Libby Penix, Nada
Burton, and Lenora Bradley.
On Thursday evening a
bonfire was held at Arlin Field
with Mr. Maul and his hot air
balloon there to help psyche up
the team.
For the two assemblies on
Friday morning the auditorium
was transformed into a
showcase of color, using floral
arrangements and a huge mural
to carry out the theme. Claire
Smith and Kevin Meehan were
selected from over fifty juniors to
serve as Master and Mistress of
Ceremonies for the occasion.
1976 Queen Tammy Taylor
crowned Shelley, while Jim
Adams, Jerry Powell, Jeff
Divelbiss, and Mike Hoy
presented her the game ball.
An informal dance was held on
Friday night, and the week came
to a thrilling close with the
Tygers’ 26-23 victory over
Lorain Sr.

Seniors Stage
Varsity
Varieties
The seniors staged their
annual production of Varsity
Varieties on November 17 and
18 this year. The variety show
featured nineteen acts with
sophomores, juniors, and
seniors all participating. The
Jazz Band provided music for
intermission and
accompaniment to some of the
acts.
The theme chosen was ‘‘That
Was Then, This Is Now.’ MC’s
James Owens and Diane Bowers
portrayed a couple moving toa
new home. As they pack to
move, they come upon an old
trunk containing many souvenirs
of the past. They reminisce
about their past and discuss the
changes that time has brought.
Directing the production was
Jeff Jones, assisted by Tammy
Eichler. Debbie McCruter and Ed
Richter served as co-producers,
while Velma Lindsay handled the
business.

Choirs Earn
High Ratings
The vocal music program,
under Ms, Michele Shafer,
offered students a variety of
singing experiences. The usual
high standards that the groups
have set in the past were
maintained.
The Rock Choir performed in
Varsity Varieties, in a special
concert, and at various meetings
and clubs in town. On February
3, they went to Dayton for the
1978 OMEA State Convention.
They also performed in
Columbus at a well known
restaurant, The Dells.
Choir members performed at
the District Choir Contest and at
Solo and Ensemble contests.
Linda Simpson and James
Tucker served as co-presidents
this year. Award winners at the
end of the year were outstanding
seniors Denita Williams, Linda
Simpson, James Tucker, and
James Taylor. Bob Johnson was
named most valuable choir
member. Sharing most
improved honors were Charles

Promote Spirit
The cheerleaders and Pep
Club did a good job of promoting
spirit and instilling Tyger pride
in the students at Senior High.
Mrs. Kohutek served as Pep
Club advisor, while Mrs. Moore
started her first year with the
cheerleaders.
Officers of Pep Club were
Trisha Walker, president; Lori
Sqrow, vice-president; Cindy
Harding, secretary; Diane
Bowers, treasurer. The executive
committee planned several pep
assemblies, sponsored buses to
all away football games, put
signs on players’ lockers each
season, and kept the bulletin
board in the main hall up to date.
Spirit buttons replaced the old
membership cards for members.
The highlight of the year for
the cheerleaders was the
purchase of new jackets.
Although the cheerleaders
earned part of the money
themselves, a welcome donation
from the booster club gave them
enough to buy the jackets.

Assist
in Offices
Again this year, students
assisted in the various offices
during their study hall periods.
They helped the secretaries by
delivering passes to students,
filling teachers’ mailboxes,
filing, and doing any other odd
jobs that needed to be done.
Monitors worked in the main
office, attendance office,
counselors’ office, and Mr.
Henderson’s office.
Shelli Phillips helped Mr.
Neuerman in the treasurer’s
office by taking in money from
various club treasurers and
teachers and filling out pay-ins
and pay-outs. Debbie Miller
worked as an assistant to Mrs.
Markham in the counselor’s
office and later filled in for Mrs.
Kochheiser in Mr. Henderson’s
office.
Library aides checked books
in and out for students, returned
their |D cards, put books back on
the shelves, and helped with any
other jobs that the librarian
needed done.
Mr. Sauder had students to
help sell supplies in the
bookstore before school in the
mornings and during the lunch

Presents
The Crucible
The first school play, The
Crucible, was presented on
November 2, 3, 4. The cast held
a student matinee on the 2nd
and played to two very receptive
audiences on the evenings of the
3rd and 4th. The play was
directed by Mr. William Asher.
The Crucible revolves around
a town plagued with witchcraft.
One innocent person after
another is accused and thrown
into jail until the conscience and
determination of one man to set
them free arises. Even though
his attempt is futile and he is
eventually killed, a lesson is
learned by all who are involved,
and the mass hysteria is ended.

“Brides of
March"
Well Received
The second school play, ‘‘The
Brides of March,’’ was presented
on March 29, 30, and 31, to
three very receptive audiences.
The comedy revolves around a
British ex-Army captain (Jeff
Jones) who inherits five harem
girls when he saves a shiek's life
during the war. The girls arrive
when Tony’s wife (Diane
Bowers) is away, and he must
think of a way to get rid of them
without offending the shiek. The
tension and comedy builds as
Tony turns to his brother (Doug
Wertz) for help and finds that
Ken is only interested in taking
advantage of the situation.
Eventually with the help of his
parents (Dennis Rock and
Monica Holzwarth) Tony gets rid
of the girls, makes up with his
wife, and gets his household
returned to normal.

Four One-Acts
Presented
The last production of the year
consisted of four one act plays,
two each presented at student
matinees and all four at an
evening performance.
‘The Love Knot’’ concerns a
‘Dear Abby”’ type character who
gets tired of giving advice and
deliberately advises two couples
wrong to see what happens. Jeff
Jones, Monica Holzwarth, David
Akers, Karen Billingsley, Dave
Holbrook, Victor Davis, and
Tammy Eichler had roles.
‘The Old Oak Encounter’’
concerns a nasty old man who
gets mad at his neighbor's
children for playing in his tree.
When he calls them a name, the
parents come to call. Curtis
McFarland, David Borror, Robyn
Kegley, Sue Billingsley, and
Doug Wertz had parts.
‘‘Filiation’’ is about a family of
the future who become
concerned about the increased
police patrol of their
neighborhood and panic when
they hear a knock on the door.
Holding roles were Keith
Coleman, Kim Yetzer, Tony
Yetzer, and Dawn Bradrick.
Dave Brown, Lori Clay, David
Borror, Ed Richter, and Ron
Marvicsin starred in ‘‘The
Monkey’s Paw"’, a story about a
family who receives a magical
charm that can grant wishes.
However, they aren't prepared
for the way in which the wishes

Students Offer
Time to Sr.
High
Student Government provided
many worthwhile projects this
year. The Christmas basket
projects resulted in 110 needy
families receiving food for the
holidays. The first student
handbook in five years was
compiled, printed and handed
out to all students, and
Superstars Day was once again
added to the calendar after a
lapse of a year. Officers were
James Tucker, president; Rusty
White, vice-president; Mike Hoy,

under the advisorship of Mrs.
Imhoff and then Mr. Pugh, was
headed by President Monica
Holzwarth, Vice-President Jeff
Frontz, Secretary Colette Smith,
and Treasurer Denita Williams.
Thirty-one seniors and twenty
juniors were inducted in the
Spring at the annual Honors

Classes of '78,
‘79,80
Plan Busy
Year
The '77-'78 school year has
been a busy one for all three
classes. The seniors and their
advisors, Miss Papenhausen and
Mr. Gross, started planning for
Varsity Varieties right after
school started. Before the mid-
November production date,
however, seniors were well into
the Christmas orange sale.
Planning class day, the prom,
and commencement took most
of the seniors’ time during
second semester.
Homecoming was the major
project for the juniors and their
advisors, Mrs. Kohutek and Mr.
Lull. They held another dance, a
slave sale, and sold candy sticks
as major projects during the
year.
The sophomores got off toa
good start when they elected
officers in the Fall. Mrs. Lewis
was asked to serve as advisor to
the Class of 1980. Projects
during the year included a T-
shirt sale, a dance, a pizza sale
that was quite successful and
fun, and concluded with a class
party in May.

Senior Prom
Snow Trails Ski Lodge was the
setting for the senior prom held
on Friday, June 2. ‘‘Where Quiet
Waters Flow’’ was chosen as the
theme. A flower filled pool and
fountain erected on the outside
balcony at the Lodge served as a
focal point for the theme. Inside
the tables were covered with
candles and floral centerpieces
in pastel shades. The dance floor
was transformed by glittering
silver columns and crepe paper
streamers.
Following a buffet dinner
featuring roast beef and ham,
seniors and their guests danced
to the music of Walt Keppler Jr.
until midnight. The punch
fountain and the pool proved
popular spots for cooling off
during the evening.
At 1:00 a.m. the party moved
on to Richland Mall Cinema
where prom goers could choose
either ‘‘The Spy Who Loved Me”
or ‘Murder by Death."’ Bowling
and pool at Park Lanes
concluded the last social event
of the year for seniors.
