The first section of the West Fifth Street school was built in 1868 on the northwest corner of the West Fifth, Miller, Boughton intersection--on a bluff above Touby's Run.

West First Street School (later Frank Carpenter Elementary) was built in 1870 on the southwest corner of Crouse and West First Street. The photo shows the school and a smaller yellow house to the west of the school (the kindergarten).
